HEARTSS:
Helping the Elderly Achieve Resilience Through Sustainable Support
Elderly individuals often face challenges, such as limited mobility, social isolation, and difficulty accessing fresh food and reliable support services. HEARTSS (Helping the Elderly Achieve Resilience through Sustainable Support) directly responds to these needs by providing innovative, sustainable support systems that enhance their quality of life and strengthen their sense of belonging within the community.
This initiative not only improves the economic and social well-being of older adults but also promotes the development of inclusive and sustainable communities. Our goal is to extend this impact beyond Antigua, creating a replicable model across the Caribbean that fosters regional collaboration and long-term sustainability in elderly care.
Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
- Isaiah 46:4

The HEARTSS Project is led by the Antiguan Delegates of the 2025 Portraits of Excellence Scholarship Program. Learn more here.
At the heart of this initiative are the elderly residents of Tabitha Senior Citizens Home and Chosen Care Nursing Home, along with several independent seniors across Antigua; and Caring For Life Senior Home in Tacarigua, Trinidad. These individuals were the primary beneficiaries of the care and support we provided. Surrounding them is a vibrant network of secondary beneficiaries, including students, farmers, Pathfinders, and community members, whose involvement fostered connection and mutual growth.
This effort is powered by partnerships with local schools, farms, and elderly homes, creating a community-driven approach to care. The Clare Hall and Jennings SDA Churches in Antigua served as valued sponsors, championing this mission of compassion and sustainability.
Together, we’re building a brighter future for our elders and communities.
